iFood: New Orleans

This past June I had the pleasure of visiting my mother state, Louisiana. I'm calling this post iFood. Get it? Like the iPhone! I know I'm a freakin' comedic genius. It's really just to post random pictures of food I took on my iPhone. I promise my pictures will be of better quality later.
Anyways.
Louisiana is the place if you really love bold flavors, in the people and food alike.
This photo was taken at L'auberge Du Lac, a newly opened resort and casino in my hometown Lake Charles. It doesn't seem like a big deal, just crawfish on a plate. Oh no. These beautiful American crawfish were on the buffet. They were absolutely delicious. Maybe I found them so tasty because I haven't had them in a few years. Who knows? Either way, if you've never had true cajun-style crawfish (I'm not talking about those terrible Chinese buffet ones) you should probably kill yourself. Okay, don't really do that. They taste like fucking baby lobsters! C'mon now!

No trip to New Orleans isn't complete without visiting the famous Cafe Du Monde. I've honestly never been there (blasphemy!) so I decided to check it out. The restaurant was really just an enormous outdoor patio filled with sweating tourists (thanks 92 degree weather!) I also found it very loud, but charming in a way. I ordered the beignets, which were pretty good! Though I found the powdered sugar to beignet ratio to be a bit off. I reluctantly ordered a cup of cafe au lait in the scorching heat. I'm not really a coffee fan by any means, but I'm told it has chicory in it? I guess my palate isn't all that distinguished yet because I really couldn't tell the difference between that coffee and the kind you get at 7-11 (which isn't a bad thing!) With all that said, I would recommend it, it's dirt cheap and historic, i think.

A few hours and sickeningly sweet daiquiris later, my sister and I became hungry again. I knew I had to have a poboy. We stumbled into a small restaurant in the french quarter, which I still can't remember the name of. I ordered a crawfish poboy. It was at least twice the size i was expecting (that's what she said!) I've never had the pleasure of having Blue Plate mayo but I think its seriously really good and tangy. The crawfish were lightly battered in something reminiscent of Zataran's lemon pepper fish fry (again, not a bad thing)

Overall I had a pretty awesome culinary adventure that weekend and I would tell you guys to go eat some real Cajun food, not that bourbon chicken monstrosity in the mall.
